A platform for performing musicians

About the project

This pitch is made specifically for

Problem

I’ve traveled through many countries and hit this problem myself: no way to find out who’s playing where, or to follow musicians I liked. About five years ago I started talking to musicians, venue owners, and managers and testing a concept that took shape on the go — and that led to ~50 interviews and the product you see today.

Insights from ~50 interviews worldwide (musicians, venue owners, managers — context and scale):

  • Almost nobody knows them; the chance of discovering them is ~95% random.
  • A huge number of musicians perform for free at venues, bars, and on the street.
  • Many venues need musicians (and rotation), but find them through word of mouth or random artists — no central channel exists.
  • Most musicians keep track of their gigs in their head (“here today, there tomorrow”).
  • Most don’t track finances when venues pay them.
  • Buskers usually aren’t well off and can’t afford to pay for yet another app — especially in Asia.

Problems I want to solve:

  • For audiences: No single place to discover who’s playing where and when, filter by genre/instruments, or follow artists — so finding them stays random.
  • For musicians: No simple, free way to post gigs and be discoverable; most can’t afford paid tools, especially in Asia.
  • For venues: No channel to find and roster musicians beyond word of mouth.

Solution

BASKR — a platform for performing musicians: street artists, live acts at free-entry bars and venues, and anyone who plays before — or instead of — commercial success.

For musicians — free forever:

  • Personal dashboard: schedule, calendar, monthly income stats
  • Add a gig in three types: venue (via 2GIS search), street (address), or private
  • Recurring gigs — calendar populates automatically
  • Posters: upload once, a flyer is auto-generated for every gig
  • Per-gig fee tracking
  • Public profile: photo, bio, instruments, social links

For audiences — free, no app required:

  • Map and feed of performances by city, country, date
  • "Right Now" filter — what's happening nearby at this very moment
  • Filter by genre and instrument
  • Follow musicians
  • Donation and support

For venues — subscription (Phase 2+):

  • Verified venue page
  • Musician search and roster management
  • Schedule management and rotation tools
  • Tour tools: see tour announcements, guarantee a gig, offer accommodation and transfer

We're launching a global hangout for musicians seeking support. We aim to amplify their voices because music knows no boundaries and speaks to everyone.

Growth Strategy & Roadmap

Three sequential phases with clear transition triggers. Each phase builds the foundation for the next.

PHASE 1 — Build the Base

Goal: a geographically-anchored network

Grow the musician and venue base, tied to cities and countries. This is the core asset — nothing works without it. No monetisation, minimum friction: free, simple, works in a browser.

What we build: musician dashboard with scheduling, posters, and profile; public lineup (feed + map) for audiences without login; organic growth through musicians sharing their profiles with fans; partnerships with music communities, schools, and festivals.

Key metrics: registered musicians, active profiles, gigs per month, geographic coverage (cities, countries).

PHASE 2 — B2B

Goal: first sustainable revenue

At 30 000 (worldwide) musicians the platform becomes a real tool for venues. The catalog is large enough for owners to see value and pay for access.

What we build: venue subscription — verified page, musician search, schedule management; business features: menu, booking, venue analytics; rotation tools — venue sees available musicians in their city.

Key metrics: paying venues, ARPU, churn, retention.

PHASE 3 — Tour Platform

Goal: create a touring market for independent musicians

A unique feature no one else offers. A musician plans a tour directly in the app — sets a route and dates. Venues in those cities see the announcement and can guarantee a gig with a specific fee. Both sides reach an agreement inside the platform.

The receiving venue (or its partners) also handles logistics: accommodation and transfer — either provided directly or recommended. Nobody knows a city better than a local.

This removes the biggest barrier to independent touring: uncertainty. Before BASKR — chaos and hope. With BASKR — a confirmed itinerary before you even leave.

What we build: tour planning tool (route + dates); venue tour feed with filters (city, genre, dates, fee); guarantee mechanic — venue makes an offer → musician accepts/declines; logistics block — accommodation and transfer recommendations from the receiving side.

Key metrics: tours created, closed deals (musician + venue), platform GMV.

Monetisation

Monetisation is not at the expense of musicians — this is a core product principle.

Four independent revenue streams, each unlocking at its own phase:

1. Venue Subscriptions (Phase 2)

Venues pay for a verified page, access to the musician catalog, schedule management, and business tools. Primary B2B revenue.

2. Advertising on the Lineup (Phase 1-2)

The public lineup drives high organic traffic from audiences actively looking for something to do tonight — a high-intent audience. Venues place native promos directly in the feed, targeted by city and date. Ads in the Lineup — contextual placements alongside real gigs.

3. Musician Premium App — $5/month (Phase 2–3)

The base dashboard is always free. $5/month unlocks: video with sound on the lineup (hover → autoplay preview), advanced analytics (profile views, clicks, follows), priority placement in search and feed, additional flyer formats and profile customisation, and enhanced tour tools.

4. Tour Platform (Phase 3)

Commission on confirmed tour deals (gig guarantee + agreed fee). Both sides transact inside BASKR.

Competitive landscape

The Busking Project (BuSK)

Street performers, global map, cashless tips. Non-profit; Pro £5/mo for buskers. Strong on donations & map; weak on “where I play tonight” posting, free-entry venue calendar, audience follow. Not B2B/SaaS. Primarily US & Europe.

Gig App, Get-Gigs, gigVANA, Stageboo

Musician—svenues, gig slots. Free or per-campaign for artists. Centered on booking paid gigs and venue slots; not a discovery feed for “who’s playing where tonight” or a permanent free presence for street/free-entry.

SoundSeen

Discover nearby local musicians, reviews. Free app. Discovery + social; no musician-led “post my performance” and no focus on free-entry/street.

Buskertunes

Street musicians sell music to fans. Direct sales, no startup cost. Music sales only; no gig/place discovery or calendar.

Indirect

Bandsintown, Songkick — fan-facing concert discovery and tickets; built on ticketed events and catalog artists, not on self-posted free-entry/street gigs or musician-first presence.

Summary

No single product combines (1) musician posts “where I play tonight”, (2) audience discovery by genre/place/map, (3) free forever for musicians, (4) Web. BASKR fills the gap for announcement + discovery without tying monetization to the musicians themselves.

Other music projects

I have a set of posters with theory for guitarists, and I want to make these things interactive. They are very helpful for beginners. Maybe part of Ultimate Guitar.

The GAGED system is an approach to take various chords in any part of the fretboard based on different types of basic open chord shapes. Open chords are familiar to all beginners and taken as the system basis.

Pentatonic Patterns are used to help to play and improvise in a key of a song without any musical school background. There are connected to basic open chords shapes (CAGED system). It is the most simple way for beginners to understand how all this things are works.
